The AOA’s "Professionalism Guiding Leadership" identifies the professionalism traits it seeks in its members. This document was created by a task force led by Dr. Terry Light and approved by the AOA leadership in November, 2005.

Charter on Medical Professionalism - the charter was created through a collaborative effort among the ABIM Foundation, ACP Foundation, and the European Federation of Internal Medicine. The charter speaks directly to the mission, vision, and core values of the AOA and for that reason, was adopted by the AOA leadership in 2004.
