AOA 2010 Annual Meeting Hotel del Coronado, San Diego, CA
Submit Symposia
The deadline for submitting symposium is Friday, October 2, 2009. Please read below for submission criteria and instructions.
Taking the Lead, Tackling Issues At the core of the American Orthopaedic Association's Annual Meeting is a format that focuses on critical issues facing orthopaedics as a whole. This format takes shape in the form of symposia that identify and address critical issues in orthopaedics.
Who Can Submit Symposium Ideas? Only AOA Members are allowed to submit an idea for a symposium; however, panelists need not be AOA members.
Submission Criteria Each symposium accepted for presentation will receive a 90-minute time slot that allows for introduction by a moderator and presentations from three speakers, as well as ample time after the panel discussion for questions and comments from meeting participants. Symposium submissions must meet the following criteria:
- Controversial - a topic that stirs debate among orthopaedists
- Broad Impact - affects a large number of orthopaedists and patients, transcends subspecialties
- Engaging - requires input and action from the leaders in orthopaedics
- Timely - an emerging issue that needs to be answered by the leaders in orthopaedics
Note: Symposium moderators will be required to submit a JBJS-style manuscript and audience response questions to the AOA office approximately 4 weeks prior to the presentation.
Possible Issues: Symposium topics can fall into the following areas:
- Socioeconomic Issues and their Role in Orthopaedics
- Medical-Legal Concerns
- Orthopaedic Research
- Healthcare Delivery
- Diversity in Orthopaedics
- Ethics & Professionalism
- Controversial Clinical Issues
- Revenue Cycle
