AOA Distinguished Clinician Educator Award Candidate Criteria
Candidates must be US or Canadian orthopaedic surgeons. Examples of qualifying criteria may include (this list is neither exhaustive nor prioritized):
- Received teacher of the year award or equivelant from residency program, medical school, university or society
- Held leadership positions in national organizations with a focus on education
- Chaired educational committees
- Acted as a mentor to other orthopaedists locally or nationally
- Served as a peer reviewer of educational articles for journals and/or served on the editorial board for journals, including the JBJS
- Pursued further training in education through courses, workshops or faculty development programs or participated in an educational fellowship program
- Achieved a sustained record of significant scholarly activity
- Has authored original books, papers, chapters related to clinical practice
- Promotion and tenure in clinical/educator tract
- Developed 'centers of excellence,' signature programs
