AOA Award for Distinguished Contribution to Orthopaedics

The American Orthopaedic Association has represented excellence in the specialty of orthopaedics since 1887.  It is this long-standing commitment to AOA members that continues to be an integral part of the AOA's mission to identify, develop, engage and recognize leadership to further the art and science of orthopaedics.The Award recognizes an individual's personal achievement and broad contribution to the specialty.

The award is presented annually to an individual who:
-
Demonstrates outstanding leadership in the advancement of orthopaedics
- Confronts issues or challenges facing the profession
- Enhances and shapes orthopaedics and is recognized as a role model in the orthopaedic community
- Delivers substantial contribution to the field of orthopaedic surgery through clinical, educational, research or other meritorious means

Award Details 
The Award Winner will be recognized during the Opening Ceremony at the 122nd Annual Meeting of the American Orthopaedic Association in Bonita Springs, Florida.  The award winner must attend the 2009 Annual Meeting and present an acceptance speech as a condition for receiving the award.
The award recipient will be reimbursed for travel associated with the Annual Meeting up to $5,000.

Nominations for the award are accepted annually in the Fall. 
The nomination deadline for the 2009 award is December 12, 2008.
