The AOA created the Council of Orthopaedic Residency Directors (CORD) to provide a forum for exchange of ideas among leaders in orthopaedic programs. Changes in GME funding and ongoing changes in the profession require changes in resident education.
Membership to the Council will be held by ACGME accredited orthopaedic residency and fellowship programs rather than by individuals. CORD dues will permit Department Chairs, Program Directors, Fellowship Directors, Residency Coordinators and program faculty to attend Council meetings at a CORD member rate. CORD is dedicated to the promotion of excellence in Musculoskeletal GME.
Among its many objectives, CORD will work to:
-
identify common challenges, solutions, best practices in orthopaedic residency education, fellowship education and to achieve common educational and leadership goals
-
formulate transferable and common educational goals and objectives based on the defined essential knowledge and skills conducive to educating orthopaedic residents in each of the ACGME competency areas
-
work with other stakeholders in education including, but not limited to, the AAOS (Council on Education), ARCOS, ACGME (RRC), ABOS, OPDA, NRMP, AAMC, NBME, and Academic Leadership Committee of the AOA
-
affirm the importance of and promote the academic profile of the program director in orthopaedic surgery
-
provide mentorship and networking opportunities for members
-
sponsor meetings, seminars, and other educational activities for members
