AOA-Japanese Orthopaedic Association Exchange Traveling Fellowship (JOA)
About the JOA Exchange Traveling Fellowship
The AOA-Japanese Orthopaedic Association Exchange Traveling Fellowship grew out of the Kashiwagi-Suzuki Traveling Fellowship, founded in part by Professor Emeritus Daiji Kashiwagi of Kobe University in Kobe, Japan. The program is a reflection of both the American and Japanese orthopaedic community’s commitment to excellence and education through international exchange. The educational exchange between the US and Japan allows US fellows to visit the top academic centers and historical landmarks of Japan while Japanese fellows center their tour around the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Annual Meeting. The Japanese tour concludes with one Japanese fellow attending the AOA Annual Meeting.
The tour extends three weeks. US fellows travel even years and Japanese fellows travel odd years.
The Japanese Orthopaedic Association sponsors the tours. Applicants must be ABOS certified, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and must be less than 40 years of age the year before the tour begins. Past ABC and NATF fellows are not eligible.
