AOA-Austrian-Swiss-German Exchange Traveling Fellowship (ASG) History of the ASG Fellowship
In 1978, the Austrian, Swiss and German Orthopaedic Associations were the first to sponsor a tour of four young orthopaedic surgeons who traveled to Britain, the United States and Canada. Initially, the tours in America were annual and arranged with the assistance of individual American and Canadian orthopaedists.
In 1984, the American Orthopaedic Association became involved in this program when Hans Mau, MD, chairman of the Austrian-Swiss-German Fellowship Commission, asked the AOA to assist in the coordination of the hosts and travel arrangements for the 1986 tour. Dr. Mau’s request was approved by the AOA Executive Committee. The tour promotes international travel for the exchange of medical ideas.
