AOA-HCA Regional Resident & Fellow Leadership Education Events

Complimentary regional events for local PGY3-PGY6 resident and fellows.

The American Orthopaedic Association and local AOA member co-hosts provide leadership education opportunities in conjunction with the Hospital Corporation of America for area-based residents and fellows.

This complimentary dinner seminar blends the AOA’s signature leadership education with practice management wisdom for those on the cusp of transitioning into the start of a successful career. Because career decisions affect spouses, attendees may bring a spouse or partner.

The educational portion of the evening is in two parts:

  1. HCA Physician Services provides practical wisdom in a presentation entitled “You Get What You Negotiate—Contracting 101 for Physicians.”
  2. AOA Members will lead a dynamic presentation on "Getting Your First Job," which offers pearls and pitfalls for up-and-coming leaders.

About Sponsorship

With the educational triumphs of AOA's well-respected events as the AOA’s Resident Leadership Forum and the Emerging Leaders Forum, the AOA's Executive Committee envisioned bringing similar opportunities to a wider audience through regional meetings. After careful observation and deliberation, the AOA is pleased to announce a collaborative relationship with the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA).

HCA has graciously offered to provide the funding to bring in a high-caliber guest speaker and logistical support. In entering into this relationship, we believe we have struck up a careful and thoughtful balance that honors the nature of these events as educational opportunities.

The American Orthopaedic Association's Leadership Fellowship Committee and event Co-Hosts of this event serve as guardians of the program content. While residents and fellows learn about HCA as an entity, the AOA has reviewed the programming to ensure it is focused on the growth and personal development of the residents and fellows.

Additionally, HCA is supporting the AOA's goal of providing AOA members with a regional opportunity to connect and receive focused leadership education, as this support enables the concurrently running AOA Regional Meetings for Members and Emerging Leaders.

How Registration Works

For the AOA-HCA Resident and Fellow Leadership Education Event, the AOA will send a formal invitation to local the Department Chairs, Program Directors, and Program Coordinators for circulating the invitation to eligible attendees. This invitation will include details on how to register online via HCA’s system. Residents and fellows will provide their basic information such as name, phone number (solely for event communication purposes), basic demographic information, current training information, and a brief query about future career plans. Resident and Fellows wishing to participate must RSVP to attend.
