The Orthopaedic Institute of Medicine's overall objective is to
provide focused, in-depth, unbiased education, information, and
recommendations on issues critical to the profession of
orthopaedics and the care of patients with musculoskeletal disease
or injury that also impact other disciplines/specialties and/or
health care providers.
The OIOM Council gathers individuals with a variety of
perspectives, training and positions who have knowledge and
experience on selected study topics to serve on OIOM Task Forces to review existing
literature and develop consensus around recommendations to guide
the profession.
To ensure the independent perspective of OIOM, no organization -
including the AOA - can alter or approve/reject the final work
product of the Task Force. By maintaining this separation, there is
increased credibility to the unbiased work of OIOM and its Task
Force.
