Overview
The Japanese Orthopaedic Association sponsors three-week
tours.
- US Fellows travel during even years and visit top Japanese
academic centers and historical landmarks for the JOA Traveling
Fellowship.
- Japanese Fellows are hosted by orthopaedic surgeons across the
US during odd years. The tour begins or ends at the AOA Annual
Meeting, depending on the year.
Historical Information
The AOA-Japanese Orthopaedic Association Exchange Traveling
Fellowship grew out of the Kashiwagi-Suzuki Traveling Fellowship,
founded in part by Professor Emeritus Daiji Kashiwagi of Kobe
University in Kobe, Japan. The first year the US fellows traveled
to Japan was in 1992.
Eligibility Information
Applicants must:
- be 42 years of age or less the year prior to the
tour.
- have passed the Certifying Examination of the American Board of
Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS certified)
- be a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons
- be available to travel to Japan the spring of 2012 (next
tour)
Note: Former ABC and NATF Fellows are
ineligible.
