Handouts/Resources

The Journal of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons reviews incentives and rewards utilized by some of the leading academic medical centers and provides advice on implementation of a system and culture to encourage academic productivity. In January 2019 an article was published on "Evaluation of US orthopaedic surgery academic centers based on measurements of academic achievement". The top five orthopaedic programs ranked by total faculty production was Washington University of St. Louis, Hospital for Special Surgery, Mayo Clinic, University of Pennsylvania, and Thomas Jefferson University. The top five programs based on per capita faculty scoring were the University of Southern California, Washington University of St. Louis, Boston University, Orlando Regional Medical Center, and the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Many openly shared their current mechanisms and other centers contributed their methodologies; all are available here.
