For subspecialty societies, CORD Advantage allows you to: 

Increase Subspecialty Awareness.  Connect with residents before fellowship decisions are made and help residents understand your subspecialty and opportunities available to residents through your association.   

Strengthen Your Membership Pipeline. Today’s residents become tomorrow’s members, volunteers, committee members, and presidents.  Do you have a resident membership category?  Through CORD Advantage, you could gain up to 4,000 residents by offering complimentary or discounted membership.  

Support Workforce Development. Help address recruitment challenges and fill subspecialty fellowship slots while investing in the long-term success of the sub–specialty.   

Increase Traction with Industry. Expand industry support opportunities with a broader audience of residents.

Create a Pipeline of Young Surgeon Leaders. CORD Advantage partners will annually select and send two subspecialty society members in their first 10 years of practice to participate in the AOA’s Emerging Leaders Forum, with AOA waiving the registration fee. 

Specialty Society Participation Criteria and Specialty Society/AOA Collaboration Terms

To participate in The CORD Advantage, specialty societies must:
Compensate AOA annually in the amount of $10,000 to offset administrative and operational expenses in collecting and updating information and working with specialty societies for selected education distribution
Annually select and support travel expenses for two early-career representatives (PGY 5 through 10th year of clinical practice) to the AOA Emerging Leaders Forum, held annually in May in conjunction with the AOA Annual Meeting. (AOA will comp the Emerging Leaders Forum registration fee for the selected specialty society designees)
Offer complimentary access to the Specialty Society’s best educational product*

Provide residents with:
Complimentary e-membership
Access to selected journals, research, and educational resources*
Eligibility for resident-level scholarships, awards, and grants
Access to applicable member discounts for products and services
Possibility for volunteer engagement on committees

Provide CORD Conference/education e-communications, 2-3x/year, to the specialty society fellowship director audience *Subject to the approval of the CORD Academics Committee

AOA will provide:
Annual maintenance of CORD program resident contact information (CORD currently has 96% of all allopathic and osteopathic U.S. orthopaedic residency programs as CORD institutional members)
Administrative/operational support in the collection of such annual updates and work with societies for e-membership enrollment
Comp’d registration to 2 selected specialty society designees for the AOA’s Emerging Leaders Forum

Through The CORD Advantage, eligible residents receive complimentary e-membership access to
participating orthopaedic specialty society selected educational content.

Program / Resident Eligibility and Participation
Includes CORD program residents where the program is in good standing
CORD would update resident contact information annually, and provide this contact list to participating specialty societies, for outreach within the academic calendar year for defined purposes
Participating specialty societies would assure that residents would be provided a clear option to “opt out” when the CORD Advantage program is offered and periodically in future
communications.
